Canadian Blast! dedicated to showcasing Canadian music around the world.

After a year off the Popkomm Festival and Conference in Berlin is back. It takes place this September 8 - 10 in Berlin, Germany.

POPKOMM features a trade show, conference and festival and remains a major destination for the international music industry. Popkomm is recognized as a primary gateway to continental Europe and attracts representatives from the music and entertainment industries, as well related sectors such as mobile, digital, interactive & games, film, television, marketing and advertising.

Berlin is modestly priced as compared to most other European cities for accommodations and food, and is world-renowned for its clubs and music scene. Popkomm's Festival takes place in more than 30 venues in Berlin's well-known Kulturbrauerei district. The last Popkomm Festival showcased more than 400 artists and DJs from 32 countries over four nights, to 81,000+ avid music buyers and fans. All musical genres were represented. This year's event also includes Jazzkomm, two days dedicated to jazz.

Canadian Blast is headed to Berlin with a bunch of Canadian artists performing live at both Popkomm/Jazzcomm. Click here to see which Canadian acts are performing as schedules are confirmed.
Canadians & non-Canadians Celebrate Canada Day in London

On a beautifully sunny day in Central London, Canadians and non-Canadians alike joined forces in Trafalgar Square to celebrate the 143rd birthday of Canada. After a recorded message from Prime Minister Steven Harper, the event got under way with The Canadian Tenors singing Oh Canada before the High Commissioner dropped the ceremonial puck in the annual street hockey tournament.

Kicking the musical proceedings off were Eccodek, who blended world music and dub grooves to perfection to get the crowd in the party mood, which was continued by Keisza, who took to the stage with air horns and keytar heavy electro pop. David Celia followed with his intelligent roots rock before Radio Radio brought the afternoon musical segment to a close in a party atmosphere, throwing out synchronised dance moves and high kicks to go with their feel good hip-hop. They left the audience pondering that constant question: Penny loafer or deck shoe?

Happy Canada Day! For those of you not heading down to Trafalgar Square for the free concert featuring Radio Radio, Sarah Harmer, Jully Black and Dan Mangan amongst others to celebrate Canada's 143rd Birthday (and indeed for those of you who are), TLOBF has put together a Canada Day special edition of our Oh! Canada Compilation. We are also delighted to have specially crafted artwork made by Forest City Lover Kat "Kashka" Burns, whose latest album Carriage came out in Canada this week.

Taking in music from Prince Edward Islands in the East to British Columbia in the West, this months edition opens with Jason Collett's ode to his home country, and ends with 'National Lullaby', a track from Sevens Project, including members of Moondata, Bell Orchestre and Patrick Watson, as well as contributions from the likes of Kid Koala and The Besnard Lakes.
As ever, our thanks go out to all involved with putting together the compilation. We hope you enjoy it and it becomes part of the soundtrack of your summer. And of course, Happy Canada Day!

Ah, Cologne. What a lovely German city. While Cologne is not the prettiest city on the surface, as much of it was bombed to the ground in the war, there's a certain relaxed feel and openness that makes it one of Germany's best.
